One day I found myself looking through my glasses and seeing a strange white bit on the bottom. The lenses weren't focusing well in that area, either. So I took them off only to find that they had cracked. Of course, it had to have been a pair I hadn't owned for long.
After wearing about 5+ pairs of glasses in my lifetime, I'd wondered why only these had cracked. It was a question I hoped someone could answer. I went back to the place I had bought them and asked them why it had happened.
Glasses are made to withstand many things and cracking isn't very common, but I was told that it can happen if certain chemicals are nearby it. It will weaken the lenses, just as it did in my case. Although I am not sure what chemicals I was nearby to weaken the lenses, I do recall exposure to plastic wrap fumes and some household cleaners. The man also mentioned to stay away from Windex.
