From the Hairdresser(s)

Since I was young I've paid a lot of attention to what my multiple hairdressers had to say about proper hair care. My hair is fine (not thick) and soft, but has a bad attitude when it comes to sticking up on top of my head, and split ends were a little more common. Over the years I've asked questions on how to better treat hair so as to not damage it. I was told:

Use an ion hairdryer. Supposedly it has something to do with giving your hair less frizz after a shower, so it will lay more flat.

Use a comb and not a brush. Combs cause less split ends and I noticed a change in that after I started doing this. It also caused less hair knots.

Wash your hair in warm water when shampooing, cold water when conditioning. The same goes for blow-drying; warm air when drying, then go over it again with cool air. Why? I was told that warm water or air opens up little pockets in the hair, causing the shampoo to clean deeper and the warm air to dry the hair better. Cool water when conditioning makes it so those pockets aren't open and the conditioner stays on top of the hair more, like it's supposed to. So when you finalize your blow-dry with a little bit of cold air, you're making sure to close those pockets when you're done.

If any hairdresser out there disagrees or can better explain any of these facts I've heard, please feel free to comment!
